“PICCHIO”
Short biography
Who is Picchio? What is his technique? How does he work?
Brief Biography
I got the name Picchio (pronounced PIKKIO) in Ticino, the Italian-speaking canton of Switzerland, when I moved from Germany to this wonderful region in 1987 Picchio is the Italian translation of my family name Specht.
At the Gynmasium, I was the best in art. My teacher often invited me after school to help prepare the next day's art lessons for the other classes. At the age of 17, I won first prize in a regional art exhibition.
Even as a child, my mother taught me to paint in perspective and in later years, when I founded the company Interroll together with a friend, I could use my training in art in all areas of the business. Although I was trained as a businessman, I was able to read complex technical drawings and even draw them in 3D from any perspective - something few engineers could do at the time without 3D CAT. I developed 28 patents during my time as an industrialist, which largely contributed to the success of the company.
Then I took the company to the Swiss stock exchange SWX. The company had grown from a 2-man operation out of the garage to a global market leader in core internal logistics products with 1200 (now 1500) employees and with 20 (now 28) branches in many countries around the world.
I stepped down as CEO of the international group in 2000 and became an artist. I had a vision of a style of art that was always recognisable and that has become my trademark. I called it "Segment Art" .
My technique with acrylic and with palette knife is also quite extraordinary and results in a brilliant play of colours.
I can transfer pretty much anything into abstract yet aesthetic. Whether it is landscape, villages, flowers or simply an abstract painting or my latest creations: "light-art" (light-art) paintings.
Also different types of painted sculptures, stelae (which I call "beams") and the painted segmented elements catch the eye.
