“VILLAGES”
RONCO s/A, ARCEGNO
When I emigrated from Germany to Ticino, I started painting landscapes. There are enough motifs here. Every corner, every village, every path in the mountains generates new ideas for a painting. You only need to take a look at the photos to realise how interesting this area is.
Nr. 14 Ronco alley with arch
The village of Ronco sopra Ascona is built like a nest against the mountain. Narrow alleys with arches and connections and stairs - everywhere. In the village you can feel a unique atmosphere

Ronco Passerelle
The alleys are narrow and the houses are built side by side. In some places the alley has been built over and a passerelle allows passage. This picture is in shades of blue, which is the mood in Ronco in the evening.

Ronco (typical)
Ronco sopra Ascona is usually painted in this perspective: the church towering above everything and the overwhelming view of the Alps and Lake Maggiore. I have kept the picture in blue tones in my Segment Art style.

Nr. 13 Arcegno centre
The village of Arcegno is always different and new. The houses built of natural stone change colour depending on the time of day and the season. Here you can see a part of the small village square. The houses are close together, like my segments.

Nr. 11 Houses in Arcegno
Here you can really paint a picture from all the alleys. They are narrow, only 1.20 to 1.50 m wide. Depending on the time of day and the season, you get a different impression of the village. Here is one of the narrow alleys in the village centre. Alleys and segments go well together.

Nr. 50 The village well
The well (fontana) is located in the small square in the centre of the village of Arcegno. In the past it was the only water supply. Today it is very quiet here. No cars, no noise, only a villager now and then.
The fountain and the houses dominated my segments.

Nr. 12 The Balcony
Here is a wooden balcony on an old stone house, typical of Arcegno. Many houses in Arcegno are built similarly. Houses, staircases, doors and entrances are simple but well-kept. The picture conveys the special atmosphere of the place.

Church of Ronco
The church of Ronco sopra Ascona, in its unique position 200 m above Lake Maggiore, is visible from everywhere. My segments follow the houses, which also determine the colour tone.

Ronco and Lago Maggiore
Ronco sopra Ascona is a beautiful village and is situated as if on a balcony above Lake Maggiore - with a breath-taking view of the lake and into the Swiss Alps. The segments follow the buildings up to the sky
Nr. 5 Pali (Stakes)
In winter, it's pretty quiet in Ascona. There is peace and quiet. No boats, few people. Most of the restaurants are closed. One of the few things sticking out of the lake are the pilings ("pali") of the boat landing.

Nr. 7 Sonlerto in the Bavona Valley
These impressions of the Bavona Valley with its rough rocks and river convey a feeling of mountain atmosphere. The village of Sonlerto with its natural stone houses with granite roofs takes the visitor back to the 14th century. It is unique in the way it lies between the high mountains. Landscape and houses form a harmonious unity. My segments follow the diagonal lines of the roofs.
Acrylic on canvas 130 x 100 cm
Sonogno lies at the end of the Verzasca Valley. It is an old village surrounded by mountains. The church is round with a roof of heavy granite stones. In my painting, the church tower forms the centre of the village and the surrounding mountain landscape. My segments here also follow the diagonal lines of the roofs.

Nr. 8 Arcegno
Views of villages usually show motifs from inside the village. I see the village of Arcegno, my village, in many different perspectives. Here from the outside - and always different. As a subject it is inexhaustible. This is the view from a nearby mountain. If you follow the houses built close together, you see vertical segments that go up to the sky.

Ascona Skyline
Ascona, situated directly on Lake Maggiore, was a sleepy fishing village until the beginning of the last century. Today, Ascona is a well-known and sophisticated holiday resort. Modern boutiques, cafés, restaurants and hotels dominate the scene. But the original atmosphere is still preserved, especially in winter, when only a few connoisseurs spend their holidays in the sunshine. I painted the "skyline" from the lake in my segment style, following the buildings and their colour, which was also reflected in the water.
