ART WORK
The machining of steel is fascinating. In my years as a manager in the industry, I have always been drawn to the perfection with which materials are shaped and worked. Now I have started painting pictures of the details of this machine work. I call them "art()work", that is, art about working. You see turning, milling, grinding etc. Photos I took in these factories show artful excerpts of these subjects. A moment that unfortunately disappears in everyday work.

Art Work “Milling”
Here you can see the milling head greatly enlarged, as it is milling in a steel plate. Chips fly around. If you work without coolant, the steel glows. Actually, they are real works of art that are created there every day.

Art Work “Grinding”
Today, one usually uses coolants that suppress the effect of the glowing sparks - which is beautiful for the viewer. You can see how the already processed part shines and reflects. That is full of life.

Art Work “Lath”
Strong chips are turned from the round steel. They turn into strange shapes and glow blue. A process with intense colours and precise shapes.

Art Work “Welding”
The arc welding process is so glaring that the welder only has to work with a protective shield and can see his weld through the black disc. It hisses and steams and sparks as steel joins steel under enormous heat. Fascinating to see - as in my picture - but hard specialist work.
